Estaleiro Rio Maguari to supply inland navigation vessels to LHG Logística
8 de September de 2024Estaleiro Rio Maguari: Best Shipyard in Brazil in the Naval Industry for the 5th Consecutive Year
26 de November de 2024On November 21st, Estaleiro Rio Maguari had the honor of hosting the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, and the Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, for the launch ceremony of Brazil’s largest inland navigation program. The event brought together approximately 600 attendees, including employees, business leaders, and members of the executive and legislative branches at municipal, state, and federal levels.
With R$ 4 billion in funding, the Brazil´s Government, through the Merchant Marine Fund, will finance the construction of vessels for LHG Logística, the logistics arm of the mining company LHG Mining, part of the Grupo J&F.
Fabio Vasconcellos, commercial director of Estaleiro Rio Maguari, emphasized that this milestone is the result of a successful state policy: “If we are here today for this important announcement regarding the construction of hundreds of vessels, including 400 barges and 15 pushboats—the largest naval construction contract— this is due, among other factors, to the Merchant Marine Fund, which has been in place since 1958. For this project alone, we are talking about nearly 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in Amazonas, Pará, and Bahia, three of the most economically challenged regions in Brazil.”
Aguinaldo Filho, president of J&F Investimentos and LHG Mining, pointed out that the project began a year and a half ago when LHG decided to increase its iron ore production, which required the construction of barges and pushboats to transport the product. “Today, in some cases, building these barges and pushboats abroad is even cheaper than in Brazil, which is why credit lines that address this cost difference are so crucial.”
The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, stated: “Today, we are launching the largest inland navigation program in Brazil’s history. With R$ 4 billion in investments, we will construct 400 barges, creating almost 10,000 jobs in the country. With this, we are consolidating a development agenda focused on inland waterways and a clean industry, which is essential for the flow of Brazil’s production.”
The Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, highlighted: “We are a state that takes great pride in those who elevate Pará’s name. Specifically, the operation here at Estaleiro Rio Maguari showcases naval engineering and its excellence, demonstrating the efficiency of the work done at this location.”
This moment marks a historic milestone for ERM and reaffirms its commitment to excellence, the advancement of the naval industry, and the development of logistics in Brazil.
