29 de February de 2024In an interview with Transporte Moderno magazine, Fabio Vasconcellos, commercial director of Estaleiro Rio Maguari, highlights that “there is a high demand for river convoys for deliveries in 2024 and 2025, in addition to the continuation of construction of tugboats and ATB sets already contracted.”
Transporte Moderno – How has Rio Maguari been performing in the last two years?
Fabio Vasconcellos – Our robust project portfolio, strict adherence to deadlines, customer trust, financial austerity, accurate budget and margin assessments, rigorous cost control, and high productivity. Our financial policy is not to work with leverage and necessarily have positive cash flow in contracts. High productivity, correct adherence to deadlines, and economies of scale contribute greatly to our profitability. In 2023, the expectation was to maintain the revenue level of the previous year.
Transporte Moderno – Did the company launch or introduce any new products last year?
Fabio Vasconcellos – No launches, but the delivery of port tugs under construction, as well as oceanic tank barges for fuel transport.
Transporte Moderno – How is the market situation? Have there been any changes in industrial policy with the arrival of the new government?
Fabio Vasconcellos – Demand for river vessels has been growing structurally, and it seems that there will be a specific policy for river transportation in the current government, which will contribute greatly to a greater balance in the transportation matrix.
Transporte Moderno – And for 2024, what are the company’s expectations?
Fabio Vasconcellos – There is a high demand for river convoys for deliveries in 2024 and 2025, as well as the continuation of the construction of tugs and ATB units (Articulated Tug and Barge or articulated ocean pusher) already contracted.
Transporte Moderno – What were the main investments?
Fabio Vasconcellos – The investment has been in personnel qualification and increased production capacity, with the improvement of internal infrastructure. We built a floating dock and a new tug launching line, as well as new sheds and increased cargo lifting capacity. These investments total around R$ 10 million.
Transporte Moderno – What were the highlights for the company in 2023?
Fabio Vasconcellos – The delivery of sophisticated 70TBP tugs to one of the world’s largest port operators, meeting quality expectations and continuous improvement in the construction of these tugs, which enable us to build any vessel of this type, was the greatest achievement of 2023.
Transporte Moderno – And what are the planned investments for 2024?
Fabio Vasconcellos – We will continue to invest in increasing production capacity, with the construction of a new barge launching line, which will double our production capacity for this type of vessel.
Transporte Moderno – What are the main difficulties facing the sector today?
Fabio Vasconcellos – The sector’s biggest difficulty is providing guarantees for the available financing lines, which greatly delays projects and the resumption of construction of large ships and platforms.
Transporte Moderno – What is the company’s strategy to continue standing out in the market?
Fabio Vasconcellos – Focus on productivity is our main characteristic, and that is what we continuously work on.
